Archery in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – Master the Art of Precision

Deals & Reviews

Archery in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is one of the most challenging, but at the same time the most rewarding mechanics of the game. While in most RPGs the bow has a scope and shooting depends only on the character’s characteristics, here everything is much deeper. In KCD2, every shot requires precise calculations, an understanding of the physics of arrow flight, and practice.

Many players find it difficult to use a bow. The character doesn’t have a scope, arrows don’t always fly predictably, and accuracy is affected by dozens of factors: skill level, physical characteristics, weapon quality, distance to the target, and even terrain. To master this weapon, you need time, patience and constant training. You can also additionally use KCD2 mods, which can improve the characteristics of some weapons and add new features to them.

Let’s talk about how to aim correctly, what shooting methods to use, how to compensate for hesitation when aiming and why the more you practice, the better you shoot.

How do the shooting mechanics work in KCD2?

The main difficulty in archery is that there is no scope. This means that you have to hit targets by eye. There are two basic methods of shooting:

1. Instinctive shooting (reflex) – based on muscle memory and repeated training. Experienced archers intuitively determine the right angle of shot without spending much time on aiming.

2. Gap Shooting is a more precise method in which the archer uses the tip of the arrow as a sight. He finds the point at which to point the arrowhead to hit the target by taking into account the distance, angle, and velocity of the projectile.

Both methods can be used in KCD2, but it’s easier for beginners to start with Gap Shooting, as it gives specific guidelines for accuracy.

How do I aim and shoot correctly?

To shoot accurately, there are a few important factors to consider.

First, you need to pull the bowstring all the way down. If you shoot earlier, the arrow will fly weaker and may deviate from the target. You can determine the full tension by the movement of the arrowhead: when it stops moving backwards, the bow is fully tensioned.

Secondly, you need to focus not on the center of the screen, but on the tip of the arrow. Depending on the distance and height of the target, the tip should be aimed above or below the center of the screen.

If the target is close (about 5 paces), the arrow will often go slightly above and to the left of the aiming point. To compensate for this, you should aim the arrow tip slightly to the right and below the intended point of impact. The farther away the target is, the greater the upward angle.

If the target is higher than you (e.g. a bird in a tree), you should aim the arrow higher than usual. If you are shooting downwards, the tip should be lowered slightly.

How can I improve my marksmanship?

The best place to practice is the Uzice shooting range. It is a spacious area where you can shoot at fixed targets, practicing accuracy at different distances.

You should start with short distances (5 paces), then move to 15 paces (this is the standard distance in archery tournaments), and then try to shoot long distances.

It is important to learn how to keep the target in the center of the screen. It is better to shoot slightly left of center, as the character moves the bow slightly when aiming. This reduces the deflection of the arrow.

You should also keep in mind that different bows shoot differently. Strong combat bows require less vertical correction because their arrows fly farther away. Weak bows, on the other hand, require more tip lift when aiming.

How to deal with wobbling when aiming?

When pulling the bowstring, the character starts to wiggle the bow in his hands. This is because his muscles get tired of holding the tension for too long. The higher the characteristic “Strength” and “Dexterity”, the less wobble and longer you can keep the bow taut.

The weight of the armor also affects oscillations: if a character wears heavy armor, it is more difficult for him to keep the bow steady. Therefore, archers should choose light armor.

To reduce wobble, you can quickly correct the position of the arrowhead with small movements and release it when it is at the correct point.

How do I learn to shoot moving targets?

The main difference between combat shooting and shooting at static targets is the need to anticipate the movement of the target.

To learn how to hit moving targets, the best place to practice is on the river near Ledecko, where logs float on the water. Their speed changes, and the distance increases or decreases, which simulates the real movement of the enemy in battle.

Two things are important to consider here:

1. changing the distance. The farther away the target is, the higher the arrowhead must be aimed.

2. Pre-aiming. If the target is moving from left to right, you should shoot slightly ahead of it so that the arrow hits the right point at the moment of movement.

Over time, this becomes instinctive and accuracy improves markedly.

Why is practice more important than anything else?

Just like in real life, archery requires constant practice. Over time, the archer begins to feel his weapon and makes accurate shots automatically, without calculations and long aiming.

The best way to improve your skills is to regularly participate in shooting tournaments in Uzice or Rataj. These tournaments allow you not only to hone your technique, but also to win rare arrows and improved bows.

When you learn to hit targets, you can move on to the real goals: hunting and combat shooting. In combat, the bow is especially useful against enemies without armor and archers, as it allows you to kill them before they come within a dangerous distance.

How to become a master archer?

Archery in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a skill that takes time, but with the right approach it becomes a powerful tool. To learn how to hit the target, you need to follow a few principles.

First, always draw the bow all the way down before you shoot.

Second, use the arrowhead as a sighting device and adjust the position depending on the distance.

Third, consider the height of the target. If the target is taller than you, aim higher, if it is lower, vice versa.

Fourth, practice shooting at moving targets, such as logs in a river.

Fifth, regularly participate in shooting tournaments to improve your accuracy and get rare equipment.

If you stick to these principles, archery will no longer seem difficult, and each shot will become accurate and deadly. Over time, your character will be able to turn into a real medieval sniper who eliminates enemies before the battle begins.
